'A Secret is Revealed' message
I imagine I'm not the first one to ask this, but could you implement something like ZDoom's 'A Secret is Revealed!' that pops up when you find a secret? It makes it a lot more satisfying finding them as well as helps with keeping track of how many you've found in the level, since other than 'playerstats' there's no way of knowing until completing the map.
If a DSSECRET
sfx lump is present in a PWAD then "a secret is revealed" will be displayed.
What about taking the Crispy approach of still showing the message even if DSSECRET isn't present, using sfx_itmbk
as a fallback?
I've actually been thinking about this recently. If I do implement it, I wouldn't use sfx_itmbk
but use Heretic's DSSECRET
sound or something similar, and put it in doomretro.wad
. Does anyone know the licensing of ZDoom's/PrBoom's secret sound effect?
I asked on ZDoom and got this response: https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=61767
Thanks. I might create my own sound, source a royalty free one from somewhere, or... if anyone reading this wants to provide one??? 😜
I have someone on it, he should be back to me this weekend sometime. 😃
Any update on this?
Sorry for the late reply. No update on this. I'll tackle this after the release of v2.8...
heads up, bit quiet but the extras.wad that comes with the unity port has an official DSSECRET
Is it possible to allow an external WAV or FLAC file to be played as the secret-sound?
It would be great if so as I could then use the Tomb Raider I, II or III sound, or the one from Last Revelation or Chronicles -- always wanted a port that would let me do that!
@dftf-stu with SLADE you should be able to make a new WAD file and import the WAV naming it just "DSSECRET". Loading that file will then replace the sound.
