Highlight Author Name not formatting

I can see in bibtex_converter, line 612 is adding the class for the highlight, but I am not sure what happens next. There is no class at all being created, and the italics is being written as {em}. I am thinking it may be a theme conflict, but could someone point in the direction of where the conflict would be?

The style is defined in papercite.css (line 39) but can be customized as described in the documentation.

However, I am unsure to understand what is the exact problem you are facing.

Finally, please note that I am not maintaining the plugin anymore, so contributions are needed to make papercite evolve.
