Research existing standards and practices
The first of our ESS-DIVE goals:
Research existing standards and practices in use at relevant agencies both within the US and Internationally. Included in this research will be projects within the DOE ESS community
Sources off the top of my head:
Soil chamber fluxes
- The SRDB
- Hibbard (if available?), and older compendia of annual fluxes
- Powell Center group - I think Danielle put this on our Google Sheet
- Avni's work
Gas fluxes more generally
- SIDb - https://www.earth-syst-sci-data.net/12/61/2020/
- Ameriflux and FLUXNET

Our standards are comprised of
- Structure
- How it's put together (traceability, reproducibility)
- Usability (for end users)
If we start with a survey, hopefully via google forms, we can ask them to assess (not important, ... very important) above categories, not individual fields.
Structure
- How important is it to record specific variables (e.g. curve fit, R2)?
- Ancillary measurements: how important is it to record these?
- COSORE providing a "level 2" homogenized dataset with climate data, soils data, etc. already merged in?
- Current bare-minimum is (flux, Timestamp end, begin, port # , where, how, by whom)... (more requirements == fewer data) do you think these should change?
Traceability/reproducibility
- How important is it that a flux value in cosore is traceably back to the original raw file?
Useability
See my edits in the survey; we can discuss.
Reminder from call 2020-03-26: Deb suggests engaging with NGEE folks about COSORE. We should say we've done that by next month.
...include them on survey expansion, for example.
