Collaborate with the other USCC Fellows

To make the most of your experience in the project and to have the most impact it will be necessary to collaborate with the other fellows of the UpdateSocial Community Call

We, Me an Roba, met after the first lecture of the assigned course. we talked about UX/UI and how we can communicate and collaborate effectively during the program. I shared the progress of the collaboration with integriert studieren and the possibility of joining together for a meeting.

We also shared knowledge about UX personas, project sides in general (collectors and publishers) then briefly about HtmlPublisher and the importance of having accessible publisher(s).

We also talked around testing in general, automated tests and a simple user story ("mehr laden" button). We also tried Google Chrome Screen reader on our main website.

We skimmed over the Frontend and UX issues which we need to collaborate on.

We decided to meet again, I need to share a few links and topics I introduced and follow up with her to make sure she has access to Github project and the board.

I had a short conversation with "JKUCommunity" website and they had already heard about the project and were happy to collaborate. I asked for a member discord's username and I'm still waiting for his acceptance of my request.

that sounds awesome! with the jku and that you are already communicating about the next steps :)

at yesterday's second update social lecture, which centered on design processes and solution/problem matching, we (all fellows) engaged in team-building activities. first, we gathered to challenge ourselves with "Marshmallow Challenge".

It had great learning outcome for me. I discovered that someone in a team should put on the moderator hat to facilitate the process effectively. The process of building the product/service would be optimized by him/her. The goal(s) of the product, wether focused on delivering value or addressing a problem, should be refined with each iteration. we build and rebuild the mvp for the problem.

If I want to generalise this method to our project, the feature we are currently working on, "event detail element" has a clear goal. we aim to present as much of the information that we have and is possible (here filterable properties) to the user through the HtmlPublisher. Other variables are A11Y and UX. we want this new feature to be usable and effective to a diverse range of users (regarding our Personas).

After that, we worked on designing a summer festival to celebrate our achievements with other fellows, I also learned idea generation and prioritising desires to match our goal. we decided whom we want to invite to this event, from our side I took the chance to invite a key member from the LinzStadt, where the majority of our events are sourced from "linztermine.at" this party. I anticipate this will foster a deeper connection, if one does not already exists.

Does this issue just involve collaborating with USCC fellows who are part of the Boudicca project or does it also refer to the others? Cause then I can update you all on the collaboration for UX research with the other USCC fellows as the users who I will base off some of the UX personas on.

it was initially only about the boudiccs fellows but this seems to be as good a place as any to post your updates to :)

Yesterday we had the 4th meeting with the Update Social Community Call and I used that opportunity to gather the contact data of all the people who are willing to participate in the user tests. Once the user tests are ready, I'll send them the link to answer some questions.

as a part of collaboration with fellows, regarding my previous conversation with JKU.community, I have created a collector for their main project 0xA.at, #434.

I helped Roba with generating user test scenarios, it has been documented under "UI/UX - Research / User Test Scenarios".

Additionality, you may find the document attached here.

I joined Roba on User test session at ProWork on June 3rd to help with usability testing (taking notes), observing participant and managing technical issues. Hopefully, there were no technical issues do to well implementations. Since the interviews were conducted in German, Steffi took care of them (you may find the notes attached to this comment).

My observations validated the initial assumptions made during the accessibility testing efforts:

  1. Not all disabled users prefer to use the html-publisher (website), however, they still may want to refer to boudicca for list of events (pdf-publisher comes into play).
  2. UI is not easy for all users.
  3. Screen reader users comprise a great portion compared to keyboard users.
  4. People need to zoom, not only 200% (WCAG suggested level), even more (around 500%).
  5. The search and filtering mechanism are not accurate, and or we are not showing them correctly in UI (needs further research).
  6. There are still user flows which can be discovered and are not covered (users get lost and can not find their way back).
  7. a participant refused to continue with the session due to not being able to change the color contrast (background) and not having an in-site built screen reader (not sure it is technically feasible).

a document has been created for observation with possible user stories w.r.t. accessibility in shared folder of google drive under UI/UX - Research / nano observation during usability testing session - suggestions wrt a11y.

I joined Roba after user test session to help with the preparation of the presentation file, we meet for two hours and discussed storyline:

  • we based our story on the need to figuring out what to build, then iterate through it with prototypes, conduct usability tests, a11y tests and persona research (user test).
  • we shared our findings about the future of the project in terms of monetization and growth.
  • we investigated the previous efforts by Patrick.
  • we tried to figure about how to fill the gap between previous update social (and other possible events) and the current program (2024)
  • I helped with documenting Roba's finding during user test session (it has been documented in the shared google drive under UI / UX - Research - User Stories For Improvements
  • we decided to her taking care of the whole presentation and presenting.

I shared the links to two previous available recorded talks by @Yolgie for Roba to base her talk upon it. I documented our storyline later and it's available here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1c1oG3E9ZxoJE0FWwt67WCtKFR6h2rkpnYDe3vD9dEbo/edit?usp=sharing)
