I'd like to add one observation: The broken behaviour doesn't seem to be happening when the machine in question uses no scaling factor for display. At work all is fine...

@tin-cat I am pretty sure that you can adjust scaling factor with any display, ie. HiDPI display is not needed.

It says 'complete days' in the documentation, exactly same formulation is used for the rest of the 'delta' methods. Do you want to tell me that between $before and $after...

The exact same thing happens in LibreOffice Writer. On the other hand, in Adobe Photoshop the rendering is correct. Go figure.
