Feature Request: Add space between ENML paragraphs, collaps empty ENML paragraphs when converting to markdown

Open bluebirch opened this issue 10 years ago • 2 comments

Markdown paragraphs are delimited by two newlines, whereas ENML paragraphs are enclosed in

tags. Adding space between paragraphs in ENML (by way of CSS or an empty

) would increase readability in Evernote.

On the other hand, empty paragraphs in ENML could as well be collapsed to a simple markdown new-paragraph, that is, \n\n. This would avoid markdown paragraphs separated by four, six or sometimes even eight newlines.

Hi @bluebirch thanks for the feedback. Which client are you using for viewing the notes? It seems that handling of paragraphs is not very consistend across clients, see #67 . The webapp seems to handle <p> tags well. I am considering adding a setting for handling these clients. The effect would be to add some spacing style to (each!) <p> tag and postprocess the converted markdown to substitute unnecessary \n. What do you think?

I use the Web, Mac and Android clients interchangeably. I now see that my feature request in many respects is a duplicate of #67, although I have a different opinion as how to handle it. What I suggest is basically a "standardization" of inter-paragraph space: two newlines in markdown and an empty paragraph (or CSS spacing) in ENML.

Adding a setting is probably a good idea, since many users would perhaps have their own opinions on how inter-paragraph space should be handled.
