[bnd 7.2.0] Release in progress (RC) - Help with testing appreciated

Open chrisrueger opened this issue 1 month ago • 8 comments

bnd / bndtools 7.2.0 is on the way, currently with release candidate 3 (RC3) ~~1 (RC1)~~.

More details can be found here:

  • https://bnd.discourse.group/t/bnd-bndtools-7-2-0-rc3-is-ready-for-testing/542 for

We appreciate any feedback. If nothing critical comes up during RC3, we are good to go for a release.

I would like to smoke test the rcs....on windows specifically...precisely because Ive been having troubles with installing snapshots wrt ECF feature (new) into recent/current packages of Eclipse.

I suspect that part of the problem may be caused by Eclipse including bndtools 7.1 (old now) bundles (not complete bndtools distribution) IUs.

In any event my hope is that the release build won't have these problems but I want to verify.

The docs seem to point to here for the release candidate p2 repo:

https://bndtools.jfrog.io/bndtools/update-rc

But...currently there is no p2 repo there (it appears to have maven dirs and artifacts but no site.xml/etc). Is the p2 repo creation in progress? Thanksinadvance.

It is a P2 repo if you paste this into Eclipse Install new Software.

But if you view it in the Browser JFrog does some magic and it appears different. It has always been like this , not sure how it works.

Tested for Sling Rocket framework. Works fine, no issues detected.

We released 7.2.0-RC5

Eclipse P2: https://bndtools.jfrog.io/bndtools/update-rc

Note: It includes only changes for the bndtools Eclipse plugin especially for a problem in the new upcoming Eclipse 2025-12.

  • added a missing dependency (errorprone.annotations)
  • adding a new Feature Category "Bndtools - Optionals" in the P2 install dialog
Image

The first entry is the main Bndtools Core entry which should basically be selected by all users. The Bndtools - Optionals should be selected individually as needed.

The purpose is the following: Sometimes there can be issues with the optional features for various reasons like the Eclipse package version in use. We do not want to bug users with such issues who are only interested in plain Bndtools. Thus we split it into two categories. In the past there was only one entry and since users usually just check it they have automatically installed all the optional features too, which they don't need.

RC10 is released and targeted to be the final RC and we try to release as the next step.

  • contains a bugfix regarding Sonatype Maven Central deployment
