Adding widgets to the application
@bmaroti9 Good day and thanks again for the application, but will widgets in the style of Android 15 and 16 be added?
Hi! This is clearly a duplicate of #11. I have made some progress on widgets which i will share later in that original issue. You can add the material style android 15-16 idea to that one, though i don't even know what the difference really is compared to previous android versions.
@bmaroti9 Android 12,13,14 are Material You, and Android 15, 16 are Material 3 Expressive
Oh, okay. And how does a material 3 expressive weather widget look like? I mean isn't material 3 expressive in beta right now? I didn't know there are weather widgets in that style currently.
@bmaroti9
Original Google Weather Widgets https://github.com/Efimj/MobileWeather
@RomanK2311 is this material 3 expressive enough?
@bmaroti9 This is insanely beautiful please add these widgets to your apps
@RomanK2311 This is already in the app :) This is a screenshot from the version I'm working on.
@bmaroti9 I'm waiting for this 🙃
@bmaroti9 I really love Android and programs for it, but I can't program. I've always been interested in how widgets are made.
@RomanK2311 yeah lol I didn't know how to make widgets either till about one month ago when I started reading a bunch of tutorials, and finally figured it out. It's not very complicated with native kotlin, just getting it to work with flutter is much more tricky.
@bmaroti9 Are widgets made in Adobe or in Android Studio itself?
@RomanK2311 in android studio itself. it's coded in jetpack glance, so they are fully working and everything, not just a mock-up.
@bmaroti9 I'm waiting for the new version of the application and thank you for your answer :)
@bmaroti9 I'm looking at widgets in Android 16 right now and I understand that the future has already arrived... I'm watching about Jetpack Glance on YouTube right now....
@RomanK2311 Cool! So you're going to be learning jetpack glance?
@bmaroti9 In the future I already think yes, for now there is no possibility to update the PC, but soon there will be such a possibility, so yes
@bmaroti9 I already want to see the new version with widgets :)
@RomanK2311 yeah so do I. Unfortunately I'm currently in a one week camp without my laptop. So when I get back.
@bmaroti9 Have a great time at camp :)
Would love the radar to be as a widget
Yeah, I wanted to do that too, and I had the radar code and everything set up but then I realized that I was using the static lat lon maps from rainviewer, and that one worked however I also would need a static basemap to go underneath that, which I was unable to find a free API for, so I just gave up. If anyone knows a free static baseman API I would happily add it.
@bmaroti9 Your app is awesome, and many people like it on the play store, and the theme with widgets is a hot topic :)
@RomanK2311 yeah I know lol. I keep having to reply to playstore reviews asking for widgets every 2 days. But hopefully not for much longer...
@bmaroti9 I'm also waiting for the new version, I'm really looking forward to it :)
@RomanK2311 So i was basically about to release a widget beta today, but then i noticed that the app size has basically doubled, which doesn't seem normal, so i'm basically trying to troubleshoot whats taking up some much space.
@bmaroti9 Hi, You can upload it to GitHub first to have a look, then to PlayMarket and upload it to GitHub as alpha version. :)
@RomanK2311 that's what I'm planning to do. But first I still want to fix the APK size. It seems like starting from a totally new project and then copying the files back in seems to fix the problem. I guess the old one had bloated files in it somehow.
@bmaroti9 Thank you, I will wait for the new version and yes, I will rarely be on the Internet for now, so our connection and Internet are being turned off....
@RomanK2311 I've just released the widget beta, if you want to try it.
@bmaroti9 Let's try to post it here and I'll download it.
