Feature request: Option to retain data attributes

Currently when the select initialises, it strips out the data attributes which causes a bit of a headache if we rely on them. Can I request that data attributes are retained or an option is added for us to specify which attributes are filtered?

I saw issue #54 was closed with no comment and marked and completed but I can't see that this is fixed. Can someone confirm or comment on the status of this request?
