Multiplayer is (somewhat) broken

Me and one of my friends tried playing on a private multiplayer server, but when our characters loaded they weren't able to move unless the inventory was open. on top of that, chests, piggy banks, and safes weren't able to be accessed, and breaking a block would drop multiple tens of thousands of that block. These same results happen when only 1 person is in the server as well.
