Have received feedback from multiple users and product thinkers that this is a feature that is necessary for the app to feel sticky for them.

We don't currently have this on the 3-mo roadmap, but I think we should consider bumping it up to something we get done after account deletion and other basic fixes.

Any new updates about this? Particularly interested in an API to register for pushes for 3rd party app integration.

Resolved by #1428. The work there does allow third parties to run their own notification services, which will generally be unique to the client. It's not well documented at the moment, but if there's interest we can dig into the details in a new issue.
