frontend: PoI: allow linked images, and generation from snapshots

Open ES-Alexander opened this issue 1 month ago • 0 comments

Current behaviour

Points of interest are only able to contain a name and location, which limits their potential.

Expected or desired behaviour

It seems like a natural extension to allow a point of interest to be optionally linked to an image, which could be displayed as a thumbnail on the map instead of an icon. This lends itself nicely to better visualising the snapshots feature, automatically showing where snapshots have been taken so far (and enabling navigating back to them if/when relevant).

Ideally multiple points of interest in close proximity could be visually combined somehow (until the map gets zoomed in further), perhaps with a single representative image or icon plus a count in the corner, like when viewing image locations in a photo viewing app:

This would help prevent excessive visual clutter when taking snapshot sequences during missions. With that in mind, it could be helpful for a collection of points of interest to show an area polygon when hovered over, as something of a coverage region.
