Matplotlib inline not working in Chapter 8 on Google Colab

The following error is appearing when trying to run the cell that begins with %matplotlib inline

ImportError: matplotlib is required for plotting when the default backend "matplotlib" is selected. It says that groupby is a Pandas function and cannot work with matplotlib.
