Help in understanding how region data is created

Open samujob opened this issue 4 years ago • 1 comments

@blrchen - I am opening a new issue as suggested by you. I have requirement to get a master list of Azure regions - same as your Regions.json file. I was wondering if you will be able to help with following clarifications:

  • How do you find regionAccess for a region (true or false)?
  • If we call az account list-locations - we get two values for "regionType" - Logical and Physical. My understanding is that Logical represents Geographies and Physical - the actual locations. And there is a field for "geographyGroup" - I am unable to understand how to interpret the data. For e.g.
    • There is a Logical record for both France and Europe. FranceCentral is shown with Europe as geographyGroup. I do not see any region with France as geographyGroup. Any idea what geographyGroup is for and how are geographies grouped.

I am asking for a favor to get this understanding, but would really appreciate if you would help.

Thanks Job Samuel

Hello @samujob thanks for contacting.

  • For regionAccess, currently I do not find any public azure api returns this data, I ended up writing a script provisioning storage accounts on all regions. if a region is gated, storage account provisioning will failed with location not available error, and then I manual mark this region is restricted.
  • I guess you might need manual maintain a geography field which is different than currently returned geographyGroup
