When a device goes offline the plugin tries to reconnect every 5 seonds, which over the course of a day amounts to a serious number of retries...

Describe the solution you'd like:

I would suggest to change the time for this to another value. Or you could add a setting, which allows the user to define the seconds to wait before the next retry himself.
