How to install and run on Windows?

Open thigpepj opened this issue 7 years ago • 15 comments

Trying to use this tool using python but I am dumb ( https://github.com/blockchain/my-wallet-backup-decryption-tool). Which portion do I insert into the script?

Hey! You shouldn't need Python to use this tool. To use it:

  1. Go to the releases page here
  2. Download the release that matches the operating system you have (Windows, Mac, or Linux)
  3. Run the program

An interface should show that allows you to input your wallet.aes.json file and decrypt it with a password. Let me know if that helps!

I am good on 1 and 2. How do I make the program run? At present it is quite sedentary

Also, which program do I run? When WinRAR opens, it shows tons of file folders

When I click on the script.js Javascript file, it says " Error: Object Experienced" " Source; Microsoft runtime error"

Not sure where I am going wrong but here is my process thus far.

  1. Download Zip
  2. View Zip in folder
  3. Open Folder
  4. click "My wallet backup decrpt" file folder
  5. There are tons of file folders open but none are applications......

Once you unzip the folder, you should see a file called My Wallet Backup Decryption Tool.exe, you should be able to double click on that to run it.

I am using Windows 10 64 bit. Do I need Linux do run this?

thigpepj avatar Oct 12 '17 17:10 thigpepj

You should be able to run a .exe file in Windows 10 just by double-clicking on it. Is that not the case for you?

Hi @asiftourab, could you open a separate github issue please?

jtormey avatar Oct 13 '17 14:10 jtormey

Jtourmey - There is no .exe file in this download. attached two screenshots of the file folder unzipped. I see no .exe file walletdecrypt decrypt wallet 2

Ah, I think I see the issue. It looks like you downloaded the source code, not the application. To download the application, click on my-wallet-backup-decryption-tool-win64.zip, in the releases section.

Hopefully the last question. I uploaded thewallet.aes JSON.

Question 1. I dont know the password, what do I put into that field?
