macOS Port
Truth it, turns out Blink is the best client when it turns to supporting wide characters and emojis within Mosh sessions.
Second best is Terminal.app on macOS, but the app is so slow it's never enjoyable or confortable.
Other alternatives do not support Unicode properly, are slow or unmaintained:
- Hyper Terminal is unmaintainted, and as today it has reached almost 700 open issues, several of each certainly relates to their support of emojis that is broken
- alacritty is not notarized and I'm joining side with Craig Federighi that believes that the level of Mac malware is not acceptable so I'm not running an app that hasn't been vetted by Apple first
- iTerm2 feels the worst of all, it's slow, has more options than macOS itself
- Termius does not support Nerd fonts
What do your think? Should Blink consider a macOS version?
We already using blink on MacOS.
It feels really fast, but we need to do some homework to make it feel at home on MacOS.
We are working one that, sir.
I actually use blink as my main terminal emulator on m1 Mac. The only caveats I met are:
- copy text using mouse does not work as intended
- even I set keyboard shortcut of paste as alt+v, command+v is still pasting data.
Other than that, I'm very happy with blink on Mac!
@larme why did you choose to use blink on macOS?
@yury mainly for 3 reasons:
- I use blink a lot on iOS devices and I'm used to the font rendering of blink (instead of iterm2)
- The hosts are synced among devices
- A very minor point but when going to next tab in blink, it won't go from the last tab to the first tab. This behavior help me to know if I'm in the last tab.
I also use Blink on MacOS, the addition of 24bit color support gives me a very nice terminal on the M1. The only caveat is that the scroll is reversed in alternate screens, it makes scrolling backwards when in an editor. However, Blink is great on M1! I highly recommend it.
If helpful, I created an issue with the patch in #1279.
This was released on TF, you can sign up on community.blink.sh if interested!
Will keep it open until we do a more official release, whenever we consider this ready.
V15 isn't available on M1?
Blink v15 is not available on the M1/M2 AppStore. Can that be changed?
