vs code Version: 1.45.1

unless I open the file, the tags in the file does not show in the sidebar

I can confirm this for vs code version Version: 1.56.2, too.

Nevermind. The extension is only scanning for markdown files that are in the directory you opened with vs code.

But then the first sentence in the extension description is misleading for me:

View your notes without being limited by your file system's hierarchy.

I can confirm and after much testing.

  • If tags are not formatted properly, lack of inline square brackets for example, nested-tags fails.
  • If a colon is used in title: without quotation marks, nested-tags fails.
  • If the front matter header has blank lines, nested-tags fails.

Therefore, please check your formatting as nested-tags will fail if there are errors in your front matter headers.
