Feature Request: Global Query Filters

Open ohare93 opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

The ability to write some filter logic in the setting page, which is then applied to all dataview queries throughout your vault. For instance one could ignore all files by tag or in a specific folder. This could be useful for:

  1. Permanently removing useless files that you always filter out anyways
  2. Temporarily removing sensitive files in your results when showing off your data to someone, without changing each and every search.

Could show a warning when showing 0 results, if the global filters are set, in the same "You got no results" page.

I would take a crack at this myself, but I am to damn busy. Thanks for the great add-on, mate.

Added to the feature request backlog!

I'd also greatly appreciate this! The main benefit I see here is the ability to ignore a templates folder, which is a concept present in a lot of other plugins (for example periodic notes or the core template plugin), which often have to contain the relevant tags to be useful. Right now most of my queries contain something akin to and -"Templates" which is a bit cumbersome.

Obsidian has since added an ignore folder. Can anyone check if dataview uses that setting?

It doesn't appear to. I still have to filter out my template folder from dataview queries.
