Question

Using version youtube-dlc 2020.10.31, im suddenly getting an "ERROR: T_OwE897Aw8: YouTube said: Unable to extract video data" - was there an update that i cant see on github, or is this a known issue? I was thinking that it might only be a matter of time until youtube tries to do something against this neat tool so just wanna know :I

youtube changes stuff all the time for various reasons - they are probably not actively trying to break yt-dl. That's why its important to always be on the latest release

I've seen weirdness like this as well. Some of the newer YT videos seem to be provided differently and it throws a wrench in the process. However I've found if I retry a few times it works. Might be one of the many video servers they have returning the video in unique format. I haven't had time to dig into it much though.

@merval In the release version, or in the current master branch?
