Tags? Threads?

Greetings! I'm interested in potentially using and adapting this tool for a journalism research project. But I'm not sure about the full feature list. The "thread" feature is blank on the demo; how does that work? Could it act as a kind of tagging feature?

Also, how adaptable is the platform from the admin back end?
