Swarm project status?

Open Nezteb opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

The last update to swarm was in 2019; since then it looks like several issues and PRs have stalled.

There are a few companies that have forked swarm for their own use, all of which are only ahead by several commits: https://useful-forks.github.io/?repo=bitwalker/swarm

Has development paused in favor of some other successor library or project? (EDIT: Maybe horde?) Were there any wider ecosystem changes that have led to swarm development being put on hiatus indefinitely?

I noticed that Paul's website is also down/broken (EDIT: adding /index.html made the page work, though his last blog post was in 2018) and he hasn't posted on Twitter in a few years, though he's got pretty recent GH contributions on his profile. Paul, I hope you're okay and doing well! Unrelated, but if you set up GitHub sponsors I'd love to sponsor you. 😄

Note: I fully understand how difficult maintaining an open-source project is and that priorities change and life happens. I mean no ill will with my question. I just wanted to check in and see how the project was doing and if there's anything I can do to help I'd love to assist!

HI @Nezteb

I'm in the process of building an app in Elixir/Phenix and needs distributed supervisor to globalize genserver across a cluster of nodes in AWS ECS.

Horde library looked promising but it seems really low maintained now, bugs are not getting fixed, and I read some people got issues with it.

I've heard of pogo but not sure whether it's production ready.

Could you tell me what you have used in the end ?

Hey, would be very interesting to hear if there are any plans to maintain swarm in the future? Or to maybe hand it over to someone who wants to take care of it? And I second @Nezteb, hope you are doing fine @bitwalker !
