Bug: Audio from eqMac crackles when system notifications occur

  • [x] I have checked for a similar issue and sure it hasn't been reported before.

Describe the bug When I'm listening to audio via eqMac and a system notification occurs, instead of the notification sound, there is a crackling that disrupts the audio playback.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Make sure eqMac is running (with App Mixer feature turned off)
  2. Play some audio
  3. Wait for (or force) a system notifcation
  4. Hear a crackle in the audio that lasts for the duration of the notification sound

Expected behaviour I would expect to simply hear the notification sound as normal.

Setup information:

  • Audio device used for playback: AirPods Max
  • Audio transmission interface: Bluetooth
  • macOS Version: 12.6.3
  • eqMac Version 1.7.4
  • eqMac UI Version 4.6.0

Screenshots or Console.app logs N/A

Additional information I have the App Mixer disabled by default. If I enable it and adjust the volume slider, there is also a crackle as soon as I stop moving the slider. My notifications do play sounds, so that may be useful info as well.

For me it also jumps back in the audio a tiny bit and then jumps to where it should be as if playing from old caqched data before going to current data.

You can try increasing the sample rate for eqMac, but this may not be available for all output devices:

  1. Open system 'Audio MIDI Setup'
  2. Select eqMac device
  3. Under Output set Format to higher Hz, for example 96,000 Hz
