Feature: Provide audio feedback when altering volume dial/slider?
I find eqMac doesn't always wake up properly after my Mac mini sleeps. Also, for whatever reasons, sometimes the output speaker selection has reverted to the Mac Mini speaker rather than (in my case) the connected monitor's speakers. I often have to reset the output assignment and it doesn't always take on the first try. That is, the output list shows my monitor speakers (and Mac mini), but won't actually recognize it unless I do it twice, with selecting the Mac mini in between those selections. Regardless, that is actually beside the point of this Feature Request.
The Feature Request is that it would be nice if there was some sort of user feedback available to test the selected output without having to fire up some other application. A test sound that played a ding or a dong or whatever. Perhaps having that incorporated with the volume slider in the user interface would be the easiest way to implement this. In that sense, it would be similar to sliding the volume slider in Windows, which produces a sound.
To be clear, I actually think this last suggestion is a double edge sword; I find the Windows ding/dong annoying most of the time, and wish I could toggle it off. But when I want to just test the connection to my speakers it does provide an immediate method of doing so. In that sense having a toggle to enable/disable the integration of the sound with the slider/dial would be good. But perhaps it would be easier to simply provide a test button that produces a ding/done (or plays a user selected sound file?) when the test button is pressed.
For further explanation: I am running macOS on a Mac mini and most of the time I am solely in that environment, but occasionally I am either in a virtual Windows session or a remote Windows session).
The possibility exists I have completed missed existing capability in eqMac, or macOS for that matter, and in that case let me know what knob I have been (pun sort of intended).
Hi, this is a pretty interesting thought, I would think adding a sound effect to the slider may be a bit annoying, but allowing the user to test the output device may be good, I would think adding an option to play a sound effect when switching devices would be a cool way for the user to test the output device. We are currently evaluating this feature as we speak, we would update you on how is this going.
