Bring Back Version at top of Screen

Open Lukeb873 opened this issue 3 weeks ago • 2 comments

Is this a feature relevant to companion itself, and not a specific module?

  • [x] I believe this to be a feature for companion, and is not specific to a module

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • [x] I have searched for similiar existing issues

Describe the feature

I'd love to see the versioning brought back at the top of the screen, I get it's in the lower left now, but it was great when it was at the top. I manage multiple companion instances across our sites and being able to have the version number jump out at me was great. Or at least put it back up there when it's telling me to update. I love being notified there's a new version available but why not also tell me what version I'm currently on right next to it like it used too.

The version number got moved as part of some UI polishing, as it felt out of place being there as it was, especially on the betas where it was a rather long string of seeminly random characters. Instead we could put the same data in the bottom left and it doesnt feel out of place of noisy.

I am open to improving the update notification text, I believe it currently shows

A new stable version (4.1.5) is available

Any suggestion on how you would like to see that change?
Perhaps it could even have a second line of text sometimes, as it could be nice to report that 4.1.5 is the latest, and 4.0.3 is the latest patch release (assuming you are running 4.0.2).
Or this message could be kept shorter, with more being shown in something when you hover over it?

@Julusian I totally get that. If the version was only appearing when there was a new version available, I feel like that'd be fine. I also think that if you're on a beta version, the long string of characters should stay, to make it clear it's not a "stable" version.

A new stable version (4.1.5) is available. Currently using version (X).

or doing what you suggested. Keeping: A new stable version (4.1.5) is available. Then when hovering showing the current version with some text saying that it's the current version.

Thoughts?
