You can do this today with Companion and midi relay. Check out the midi relay module in Companion for more info.

Does the LV1 software OUTPUT midi as well as receive it? I would like to capture the channel select from LV1 and use that to select a gain control in companion for external mic preamps.

Has anyone done this successfully? I was able to make it work but it doesn't seem to work on toggle buttons. It will turn my TB on but I can't figure out how to turn it off.

I figured it out thanks to Waves support and this Ableton Help doc. Turns out for a Momentary button you need to send the MIDI Note ON command at velocity 127 on button press and then MIDI Note ON at velocity 0 on button release. I was assuming it was MIDI NOTE off command. Some buttons in LV1 can be Latch or Toggle.
