Google Home / Apple Home

Hello amazing people,

I figured, there is so many different smart things control apps, basically for every brand there is one, however most of them interconnect with either google home or apple home.

So the easiest solution would be a module for those two and we would end up with a one-size-fits-all control module.

Thoughts?

What about the home assistant module?

Home assistant is great, however, like companion it relies on the community to have modules added, whereas with Google and Apple home companies always want to have their equipment integrated.

This is why both of the major smart home apps have support for almost any smart gear out on the market.

e.g. in our usecase, I am already two modules (or integrations) short in home assistant, which would leave me with a couple of smart things I couldn't control. That's why we are currently using Google home.

So what would you want to be able to do, when you press a Companion button?

Mostly it is just on/off for the smart devices. This would cover the majority of controllabe things.

Additionally there could be functions like:

  • dim lights
  • change light colour

@DachsbauTV I'd also like to see a module like this added to companion. In the meantime I was able to get Home Assistant to control devices in Google Home using the assistant relay add-on for Home Assistant OS. More info here. Be sure to read the comment in the video to see more up to date steps to follow to get it working.

Not sure if this is the right place to throw in this idea. I don't want* to control any Home devices with Companion, but I would like to report some statuses from Companion to Google to show up on Google Home: Lights Projector Offline status of ? module

And it would be fun to show my room temperature (from a Nest thermostat) in Companion.
