Given that this PR has been open for 6 years, I lean towards interpreting the absence of a response as lack of interest in merging this. Ping @slush0 @prusnak @voisine @ebfull to see if this should be added to their BIP.

I recommend that we close this PR after 2024-05-07 in case it remains unendorsed by then for lack of activity.
