Proxy Support

I apologize if this has been suggested elsewhere already. I just wanted to put in a request for proxy support so that this app can be used with privacy apps such as Orbot. Thank you

Using a proxying for Tor isn't very useful. Peer discovery would still happen without Tor afaik.

Our stragegy is enabling Tor support directly within the app, without any detour via Orbot or similar.

Would it be possible to route Peer Discovery through proxy also? I suggest proxy, because it is much more versatile. Someone may wish to use a VPN instead of Tor, or some other solution, they may have their own hosted proxy.

I'd love to see SOCKS5 support added. If the SOCKS5 server is Tor then DNS lookups (peer discovery via dns seeds) can be sent to the proxy server as well...

Hi there, just checking if this is still being worked on? Currently the "Trusted peer" option is of limited value because it is difficult to authenticate the peer or encrypt communications with that peer.

This feature request would offer a significant enhancement to user privacy because it could allow a Tor .onion address to be used as a "Trusted peer" - fixing the authentication and encryption issue without having an SSL certificate setup (not to mention trusting CAs).

BIP150 and BIP151 will hopefully solve those problems. If they're implemented in bitcoind I will happily work on support in bitcoinj.

Work on Tor/Onion support has stalled because of a couple of technical reasons. In fact, if no one steps up as maintainer for Orchid I plan to remove it from bitcoinj.

Thanks @schildbach , I've been told that BIPs 150 & 151 will not be ready till 0.15 (summer 2017) or later.

On the bright side, I've had some luck with Tor hidden service "Trusted peer" + Orbot's "Apps VPN mode".

Update: here is a guide explaining how to configure yourself:
