how to change installation folder

I originally installed bitcoin core on my C drive, which couldnt be completed, due to lack of storage on that drive. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling choosing an external drive as the folder which has 500gigs free. Every time i fire bitcoin core up now, it says error initializing the database, asks me to rebuild the Blockdatabase and when i choose that it says error opening the Blockdatabase. On second installation it didnt give me as many options as it did the first time installing whilst being in the installation wizard. Can someone help?
