✨Welcome to the project.✨

To solve this issue no coding is needed. It is perfect for beginners to jump into the project. 🎯 If you pick up this Issue because of the GOOD FIRST USE label. You will be mentored through the process if you want. 🤝 First the Issue is explained. At the end you will find some guidance for first contributors.

📡 Please do not hesitate to ask questions. 📡 Your solution don't need to be perfect. 🚫 Participation or contribution is only meaningful if you are familiar with the Back In Time application and are an active user. This project is not intended for learning basic Python skills or enhancing your profile at Microsoft GitHub.

📝Problem

To translate the GUI a translation platform (Weblate at translate.codeberg.org is used. For each of the over 400 strings a screenshot is provided to give translators more context.

The problem is that some of that pictures are outdated. In some cases the strings to translate where modified and do not fit the strings shown in the pictures.

🏁Solution

📌 Go to the translation platform (no account needed) https://translate.codeberg.org/screenshots/backintime/common 📌 Click on each screenshot (e.g. https://translate.codeberg.org/screenshot/636/) 📌 Compare the list of "Assigned source strings" with the pictures. 📌 If you find and outdated screenshot. Use the latest dev version of Back In Time to create a new screenshot (in light mode, not dark mode). For animated screenshots (screencasts) I recommend peek or Kooha. 📌 As filename use the screenshot name used on the translation platform. 📌 Send it to me as attachment via this issue ticket or email.

@Gnanasaikiran please do not delete comments. This produce noise in my mailbox and put extra burden to me as a maintainer. it is OK to step back. But please keep the communication open and transparent.

We as the maintenance team are working voluntarily in our free time. We don't seek applause or fame, but ask contributors and users to respect our limited resources. Next time think about that before randomly approach a project and offer your help. Don't contribute to software that you don't use yourself. I also recommend this video about FOSS contributions.

About your comment. Next time please read the describtion carefully before offering your help. If you had read it you would have realized even earlier the three tasks you have identified.

About #1583: According to your current behavior and skills you have shown to the project, I would say no.

Hi Christian,

Thank you for the opportunity! I understand this issue requires checking translation screenshots on Weblate and identifying outdated ones.

However, I realize now that to complete this task properly, I would need to:

  1. Install and run the Back In Time application on my system
  2. Take screenshots of the actual GUI
  3. Compare them with what's on the translation platform

Unfortunately, I don't currently have the Back In Time application installed or the setup to run it.

Would it be possible to work on issue #1583 instead (adding description/comment column to exclusion list)? That's a coding task I can work on with my Python and PyQt knowledge.

Alternatively, if there are any documentation updates or code-based issues suitable for beginners, I'd be happy to contribute to those.

Thank you for understanding!

Best regards, Gnana Sai Kiran
