Hi @buhtz

I’d be happy to help with adding translations for this project. As a native speaker of Hindi and Tamil, I can provide translations in these languages. Let me know how I can contribute!

Hello Ashwanss, thank your very much for your message and your efforts to contribute. We appreciate it.

Please see the section "Your next steps" in my initial comment about how to proceed with our translation platform. Don't hesitate to ask if you need help.

After you registered and logged into the translation platform you need to add your language. image Make sure you are at the right "Project" and "Component" (see 1 in the screenshot). Then press the "+" (see 2 in the screenshot).

It is up to you to decide if you use native script Hindi (original letters) (language code hi) or a Latin script (language code hi_Latn). To my knowledge there is not Latin script version for Tamil (language code ta).

Regards, Christian

Let me add something. I am not from your area, so you might know this much better than me. To my research it seems that it is not uncommon in Hindi and Tamil speaking area to use computers with English language as default for the GUI. In this case BIT will use English, too. The users need to modify the language settings of BIT explicit. It might be that a lot of Tamil and Hindi speaking users won't use BIT with that language because they don't know that BIT offers it.

I really appreciate your offer. Decide yourself if it is worth the work and if there are enough users out there who would benefit from it. Keep in mind that while BIT changes in the future the translation need to adapt to it, too. So from time to time the translations need updates. If there is no update for a long time period and the completeness of the translation is to low I have to remove the language again from the project. See #1914 as an example.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I totally get your point about keeping translations updated as things evolve. It’s definitely something I’ll need to think about to make sure it’s worth the effort and actually helpful for users

I’ll take some time to figure out if there’s enough demand for this and whether I can commit to maintaining it over the long run. If I do move forward, I’ll make sure to keep it up to date so it doesn’t fall behind

I really appreciate you being upfront about this as it helps a lot. Let me know if there’s anything else I should consider while deciding
