Make the log file path configurable

Open Germar opened this issue 8 years ago • 3 comments

In reference to question https://answers.launchpad.net/backintime/+question/137989

Please add the ability to specify a location of the BIT logfile.

It currently goes to: ~/.local/share/backintime/takesnapshot_.log I would prefer that it goes to /var/log/takensnapshot_.log

Thanks for the great application!

(by danleweb) Ok, but if you use BIT for more then one user you have have to specify a different file for each user.

Regards, Dan

I would aggree to @danleweb. BIT is a user process and need to use user-folders. But I am not absolutly sure about rules in the unix/posix environment. I am doing a bit research about it and will report here later.

On the current state I recommand to close. @Germar ?

Keeping this Issue as a feature request to make the log file location configurable.

Note for myself: I realize this is not the Back In Time application log-file but a log file related to a specific snapshot profile. That is different and we are more flexibel with the rules here.

In that case I would like to offer a two level configuration:

  1. A log file location for all snapshot profiles. (BIT level)
  2. And a log file location specific to a snapshot profile which overrides 1. (snapshot level)
