UI: Add support for sats, a.k.a. "make sats the standard"

Open cd2357 opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

Allow the user to configure the units for displaying BTC amounts (sats, mBTC, BTC -- just like Electrum Wallet does).

This makes it more intuitive for user to deal with the decimal zeroes in a typical BTC amount.

Assuming the BTC prices tend to rise, this is a good long-term approach. People would deal in smaller and smaller amounts of BTC, which will eventually be harder and harder to represent as BTC in a "human readable" way.

@cd2357 This looks like a popular suggestion. Maybe make it as a proposal?

I checked the proposals docs and

What proposals are good for

  • Creating an entire new Bisq component or making a significant change to an existing one
  • Changing something about the way contributors work together

What proposals are not good for

  • Smaller changes to existing components, infrastructure or processes, where a broad consensus of contributors is not required

I think this fits more in the "smaller change to existing components".

Sounds like it could be a good first issue through.
