I did see this issue myself sometimes. Could you please restart the app and try it again if you always run into this error?

Yes, works all the time.Never had a problem with it.

Maybe it is related to the permission handling in this macOS versions. I haven't updated my link for quite a while so maybe something changed that needs a library update or similar. I'll test it during the v1.3.7 release testing.

I can confirm that it is not working under 10.15+ right now because of https://github.com/sarxos/webcam-capture/issues/723.
