Update AUTHORS, add all contributors?

This file is in dire need of updating.

I have started a Google Sheet on the committers to the repo w/ their names (as best I could glean from past history); this would of course involve both authors and contributors. My preference is that we have all in the same document.

May add a roughed in version with AUTHORS in this run.

This is being pushed to the 1.7.1 release; it will require a bit more work to add everyone in, but I would like a more comprehensive list of contributors (past and present)
