White screen on GUI with pinoir v2

I have attached a pinoir v2 to a Pi0w and I have noticed that if exposed to sudden light after a period of darkness the GUI turns white and remains so until the pikrellcam is restarted. It also seems that this is not only in the GUI because motiondetection does not work once you have a white screen.

It seems to happen when exposure is set to auto. It does not happen with other cameras (typically pimoroni similar to picamera v1) and it does not happen if exposure setting is set to Off.

Not sure why this happens. Is there anywhere I can read what the different settings do so I could test?
