Unable to column select past line in YAML files

When editing .yml files, I seem unable to column select past a certain line. Which line seems different for every file but it is usually about 2/3 of the way through the file. Attempts to column select past this point will result in the cursor being stuck at the end of the "border" line.

I'm seeing this same issue in at least markdown files, plus pretty sure I've noticed it in python files that are long enough.
