Selecting init sensitivity ?

Hello, please can you add option to increase selecting sensitivity to sides? I have always problems to initiate select. Only way for me is to slowly drag cursor up. I used this feature in TextMate and it works great. It would be great to have an option to select for example 2 characters to left and right from cursor as some tolerance. PS.: I have OS X and MacBook Retina display, it could be problem of high resolution 2560 × 1600 px on 13" display.

"increase selecting sensitivity to sides" Not sure if I understand you. You mean it should (optionally) snap to the sides (ie the first column) if you are within a few characters of the side?

Look at the picture - now to init selection, you have to drag cursor exactly down or up (red line), but it is very hard! It would be nice to add sensitivity to to both sides (left and right) when dragging cursor (pink line). When I press the key (ALT), I want always start this selection. So make some tolerance, instead checking if cursor is exactly under start spot, make it exactly or in range +- 10px, or width of two characters, atc.
