BIDS Workshop for COSYNE 2026
Dear @bids-standard/bep032 folks,
We missed abstracts submissions but now we have opportunity to submit for a workshop.
INFO:
Computational and Systems Neuroscience 2026 (Cosyne)
MAIN MEETING
12 - 15 March 2026
Lisbon, Portugal
WORKSHOPS
16 - 17 March 2026
Cascais, Portugal
www.cosyne.org
IMPORTANT DATES
Abstract submission opens: 05 September 2025
Abstract submission deadline: 16 October 2025
Workshop proposal submission opens: 05 September 2025
Workshop proposal submission deadline: 23 October 2025
I feel that it should aim at presenting even more than BEP032 effort -- pair it with
- overall guide through BIDS ecosystem and on how to contribute to BIDS
- basic intro on NWB and converters to NWB (@bendichter @CodyCBakerPhD @rly have lots of experience)
- integrations with ndx-events and HED descriptors (thus attn @rly)
- demo/promote https://github.com/con/nwb2bids (work is ongoing lead by @CodyCBakerPhD ) and other tools (???)
- demonstrate new BIDS "study" DatasetType and how entire study could/should be organized consistently
- potentially by then add some demonstrations of study workflows with specific pipelines (e.g. AIND)
- relate to other "bids inspired" initiatives (https://github.com/bids-standard/bids-2-devel/issues/62)
Produced materials could then become part of the website or at least referenced here. Ideally should be reusable collection which would be tuned up going forward through the years.
and thus make it a pragmatic guide which might start changing ecosystem in the field toward more use of NWB and initiate use of BIDS. WDYT?
Who is interested to join effort in submission and attending/leading the workshop?
FYI we already have established a tutorial for NWB+DANDI in the main meeting on the morning of the first day. We usually get about 150 people in attendance.
I am interested in contributing. I cannot attend.
I am almost finished with the ndx-hed extension for NWB. This includes a full equivalent implementation of events annotation as well as HED annotation in any DynamicTable. Also included is a full set of HED validation routines and conversion between NWB EventsTable and BIDS tsv file with sidecar. See https://github.com/hed-standard/ndx-hed for progress. FYI: @rly @oruebel

Abstract submission closes next month - Oct 16
Last year, they started piloting a dedicated section for posters about tools. There was one on https://github.com/open-retina/open-retina that stayed up across all three poster sessions and was located by the sponsor/vendor tables. If you want to do a poster, I think it would be worth inquiring about that.
Workshops are usually multi-speaker, science-focused symposia. We have tried a couple times in the past to submit on infrastructure but have been unsuccessful. Maybe that has changed though.
Here are some still-up websites from previous workshops:
- https://sites.google.com/research.fchampalimaud.org/cosyne-dynamical-systems-ws/home?authuser=0
Also happy to contribute but I may not be able to attend depending on funds.

do you mean this is already planned for COSYNE 2026?
yes, we got confirmation from the admin team of cosyne 2026 just recently.
I messaged them and the page is fixed now. https://www.cosyne.org/abstracts-submission

may be then it could just grow into NWB+BIDS+DANDI? ;)
I'm happy to help creating the workshop
damn, forgot about this one and now we are well past the deadline :-/ @rly - are you planing to go to cosyne and will you plan to have anything nwb-centric?
We are doing an NWB+DANDI tutorial on the morning of the first day. In the past it has been very well attended. I'm happy to include some content on BIDS and the BEP32. I'm not sure about @rly .
