BIDS motion format - EUROBENCH format

Open jorgomezga opened this issue 1 year ago • 5 comments

Dear BIDS community,

I am writing to express my interest and support for the BIDS motion standardization effort, which I learned about from @guiomar. I agree that designing formats that enable the interoperability of codes and the reproducibility of research is essential for achieving FAIR science principles. In our group, we are committed to those principles, having worked on developing open standards for motion data, especially for robotics and bioengineering applications. Our group (https://neuralrehabilitation.org/) has coordinated the EUROBENCH project (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/779963/es) (https://neuralrehabilitation.org/projects/EUROBENCH/), which aims to create the first benchmarking framework for robotic systems in Europe, as well as to provide open standards for data sharing, code reuse, and performance evaluation in a reproducible and standardized way. The outcome of our efforts is the EUROBENCH format for motion data (https://eurobench.github.io/sofware_documentation/latest/index.html). After reviewing the BIDS motion data, we noticed the similarities between our approaches and we believe that we can offer valuable contributions to it. Please let us know if you are interested in our input and how we can proceed to collaborate with the BIDS effort.

Kind regards,

Hi @jorgomezga,

thanks for reaching out. After a quick look, the EUROBENCH format does indeed have some overlap with our MOTION-BIDS. Here you can find the Preprint for more details. Should we schedule a call in January to see if and how our approaches can be aligned? I am sure that @sjeung will support this as well :)

Best wishes, Julius

Thanks @jorgomezga!

I think I wrote @JuliusWelzel and @sjeung a few months ago about the european Eurobench proyect and mention it when we meet back in May. These months have been a bit busy, sorry for not following closely on this front. Indeed, I think it would be very good to meet and get aligned. The Eurobench team has a lot of expertise in Robotics and movement tracking, it's not specifically meant for brain signals but I think we could significantly benefit from their vision. So an eventual convergence (if possitively considered) or easy conversion tools, could be highly convenient for both fields. Count on me for the January meeting :)

Hi @jorgomezga, thank you for reaching out. This seems very interesting! I agree with other comments that it'd be nice to have a meeting in January. From my side the second January week would work but let's further coordinate the date over email. [email protected]

Thanks @sjeung @guiomar @JuliusWelzel @effigies :) We can coordinate this meeting over email and keep discussing about the alignment of the Eurobench format and the BIDS motion format. Thanks for your your positive responses
