When I download the CSV file the feature type column is missing and several of the entries under the gene column are a date (ie: 03-Sep) in place of the gene name.

FYI, the date issue is an issue with Excel transforming strings into dates when parsing the csv. There’s is nothing we can do to fix this issue.

If excel must be used, workarounds are well documented online, for example here: https://superuser.com/questions/307496/how-can-i-set-excel-to-always-import-all-columns-of-csv-files-as-text
