Magic wand slow with big images

The performance of the "Magic Wand Select" tool drops dramatically when the canvas is large. Apparently, not only adjacent pixels are calculated, but the entire canvas as a whole.

This can be the case if the tolerance is a bit high. What happens with a lower tolerance? Note: unchecking "progressive" option will make it more obvious what part of the image is selected
