egg-info is apparently the package meta-data for PIP python install(er|able) packages ?

(We recently ran into an egg-info error message trying to install a utility.)

Packages are apparently called eggs because pythons are oviparous? ( /But the language was named for the comic troop ... yeah, that battle was lost decades ago./ )

Yes, it sounds like the sort of thing one doesn't search until one needs to search it, and then the trick is to remember that it's not searched and it exists.
