Tiny little freezing issue in Beta 1.5_01 - Beta 1.8

There are these little tiny freezeframes about every 3 seconds where the game completely stops for a tiny fraction of a second. I know I probably sound a little whiny here (and I'm sorry about that), but it's driving me crazy. I tried playing with the render distance, Fast/Fancy graphics, smooth lighting, performance settings, I even tried inserting some JVM arguments into the instance, but nothing worked.
