We've been successfully building for some years, so closing this as no longer applicable.
If it helps, under Linux (Fedora 31) I just rebuilt and reflashed Asteroid (the latest commit: 61183fdbd8d28c882f19f927a08e40a98295024a ) into my LG G watch without any problems.

This is a modification that allow the virtual keyboard to be actually usable on the watch. 
I will try to extract this into a separate package, and maybe clean it up a bit.
