Long-term instructions
I believe that the game should have long-term actions, such as wondering and researching. As the main character's complexity increases, it should be possible to just tell him or her to dedicate his or hers time for something.
Consider implementing this as a simulation. Every waking hour must be rendered behind the scenes. For the sake of realism, the character must walk by the world in search of resources to survive and maybe even kill and loot one creature or two in the meantime.
