Inserting/Pasting images from the clipboard into StackEdit
If you guys could only add this feature to StackEdit you will simply make it the best markdown editor out there.
Marxico already has this feature where one can easily paste anything that is on the clipboard into marxico.
It's so missing from StackEdit.
~~Duplicate of #725.~~
@Noomene wants offline storage, not just the ability to paste images, see below.
No exactly a duplicate.
I, like most other people, am a normal person, i.e. an offline person. I like to be able to use my software anywhere anytime without needing to be connected. So pasting an image only to upload is ridiculous to me. Why would I need to upload when I have my hard drive right under my fingers.
So what I meant in my original comment was : pasting image and saving it locally to some folder (chosen by the user or automatically)
Anyway, tried Stackedit, then Marxico, now I am using Typora. And I guess in the near future I will be going back to zim desktop.
Sorry, I didn't realize that's what you were asking for. Right now StackEdit only supports image insertion via upload so you may want to specify "offline storage" in your original issue/title since that's actually a much bigger change than just making it possible to paste the image into the editor from the clipboard.
In case it helps, I started using Atom along with Galadirth/markdown-preview-plus (only matters if you want to use LaTeX) and csbun/atom-markclip. Markclip supports image paste and saves the images alongside the markdown file.
Does it make sense to use Google Drive as storage if user permits?
+1 for this extremely important feature. Basically it is the first and only problem using StackEdit to me.
+1, this is an important feature which will reduce a lot workload for me also.
+1, this is an important feature
+1 it's really important to permit this feature. To take note quickly it's not good to manually manage img upload (like screenshot).
I think that with this feature, and some marketing, you can be a Confluence killer. Or at least a significant competitor.
I'm using Confluence at work. I like the ease by which I can insert code parts, something which I don't have in Google Docs. However, I find it much more pleasant to edit using StackEdit, since I see the raw text I'm editing, so there are no surprises when editing.
I also feel much more confident knowing that I have the source markdown stored in a regular git repository, instead of having all my knowledge base locked in a proprietary (and pretty expensive) product.
The main feature I'm missing is being able to paste images, such as screenshots.
I think it's a pretty reasonable feature, at least when synchronizing with a git repo. When I paste an image it will be uploaded as a new commit to the repository (perhaps in an images
directory near the document), and an image tag with the relative path will be added to the document.
In GitHub, if I reference an image using a relative path (just the filename if it's in the same directory as the markdown file), I see the image when viewing the markdown file. I think it should be possible for StackEdit to support this as well, since the editor has access to my private repository.
(A workaround that I may automate: I may create a Python script which would create a secret gist with the image from the clipboard, and then update the clipboard with its URL)
Thanks a lot for the great product!
Noam
+1 just missing this feature for stackedit
+1, I will note use it for my daily notes because of this missing feature :/
+1, wow, reported in 2015. Nine years ago and it is still open. It is kind of a blocker for me.
Even this comment text area is able to do that.
