stackedit Project abandoned?

2 years since last commit, and 4-8 years on average.

What is the recommend alternative to stackedit?

The Stackedit is still good and usable as an browser, but its really sad that it will not be further develeped

I don't think dillinger is an alternative. That tool was last updated in 2016, plus the link to the related website is broken.

So curious if someone will fork this project and work on an updated version.

i tried it for stackedit, but i ran into the issue that some dependencies are not available anymore or doesnt work

Sad to see it gone. Meanwhile check out https://editor.stackoverflow.design/. Or even better https://editor.stackoverflow.design/empty for regular use without clearing the sample text.
