Transcribers sent emails about document additions they can't see.
We've gotten a number of confused emails from transcribers who get an email like this:
Hi Queen --
We just wanted to let you know that there's been activity in a collection that you worked on.
New Works Lindsey Peterson (CWRGM Associate Editor) added Petition from Citizens of Columbus, Mississippi to Mississippi Governor Adelbert Ames; September 30, 1874 to the collection Civil War & Reconstruction Governors of Mississippi Project. Hana Suliman added Speech File Material: Packet of Quotes Used in Speeches, F. Douglass, H. M. Turner, J. S. Rock, no date to the collection New Content. Subject line is: New FromThePage Activity
This happens because the project owner adds a document to a private collection, but does not include it (yet) in the public document set. The transcriber worked on the "collection" by working on the document set.
This is very related to #2821 (that's in the UI rather than an email). We should fix both by not showing these deeds to folks who can't access the document because it is in the private collection.
Once we fix that, we should look at #2250 which is part of the solution to actually showing them these documents once they can see them. In the ideal world we'd send them an email once the document was moved into a document set they had access to see.
Just got another complaint about this from a transcriber for the UK national archives.
This came up again last week.
Another transcriber emailed us about it last month.
